In 2004-05, 1,025 Purdue students participated in study abroad, three-fourths of whom participated in Purdue faculty-led programs. The number of Purdue students studying abroad has increased over the last decade and has more than doubled since 2000. The number of programs utilized has grown to 167, likewise doubling in number since 2000.

Purdue offers students within all fields of study the opportunity to participate in international programs in 47 countries. Students earn Purdue credit for courses completed. The academic experience both complements the degree plan academically and provides extensive contact with the local cultures.

Every effort is made to keep program costs as close as possible to the cost of study on the West Lafayette campus. Students eligible for financial aid may apply most forms of aid to the costs of approved programs.

Students may spend a year, semester, summer, or spring break abroad. Foreign language requirements vary from none to the advanced level. Some programs are designed for students in specific areas of study, while others are open to all Purdue students regardless of major.

The Office of Programs for Study Abroad and the Office of International Programs are working with departments and colleges to develop new program possibilities to involve even more students and faculty.
