From the Dean

Fall is a wonderful time to return to campus — many opportunities to connect with classmates and professors, beautiful fall foliage, and great college football. One of our annual fall events is the dinner for members of the CFS Dean’s Club to show appreciation for their gifts to the college. This year, however, we’ve decided to expand the event to include a weekend full of activities.

Dean’s Club Weekend will be held October 3–4 and kicks off with a round of golf at Ackerman Hills Golf Course. Friday evening will include dinner in the John Purdue Room and a Purdue Convocations’ performance by jazz great Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The next day, we have Purdue football as the Boilermakers take on Penn State. Afterward, Dean’s Club members are invited to a reception at my home.

If you’re a Dean’s Club member, you can expect to see your invitation in the mail toward the end of August. I’m very excited about what we have planned for this special group of alumni and friends who generously support the college.

Hail Purdue!
Dennis Savaiano
Dean

Bone Zone Exhibit Takes Center Stage at Indiana State Fair

When the Indiana State Fair begins August 6, a new exhibit in the Pioneer Our Land Pavilion will help illustrate the importance of calcium to fair visitors. Working with the Department of Foods and Nutrition, the Purdue Agriculture Exhibit Design Center (pictured) created the Bone Zone exhibit, which will feature nine informative, interactive displays that show people of all ages how diet and exercise keep bones healthy and how to develop lifelong healthy habits. Following the fair, the award-winning exhibit will be available to museums and science centers across the country. Read more about the Bone Zone and other Purdue exhibits at the Indiana State Fair.

Chinese Hoteliers Study Tourism Management Practices at Purdue

The managers of one of China’s most luxurious hotels are spending a month at Purdue learning about the latest hotel management practices. Begun in 2000, the exchange program between the Jinling Hotel and the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management provides management training each summer for hotel executives and internship opportunities for students in the fall.
