Holly
Schrank, professor in the Department of Consumer Sciences
and Retailing, and colleagues are presenting a paper at
the International Family Enterprise Research Association
in Brussels, Belgium, in September. The paper reports research
on how family businesses are exercising social responsibility
in the community and the owner, business, family, and community
characteristics that influence business social responsibility.
Professor Schrank and several colleagues (including CFS
alumna Ramona K. Z. Heck) have also written a book chapter
on the family in family business, to be published by Edward
Elgar Publishing.
Several faculty members from the Department of Hospitality
and Tourism Management presented their research at the I-CHRIE
conference in Las Vegas in July. Presenters included Barbara
Almanza, Sheryl Kline, Rich Ghiselli, Mick La Lopa, and
Doug Nelson. Two graduate students, Eric Brey and Stephen
Leitch, also presented. Several Purdue faculty and students
(past and present) received best paper awards.
Alastair
Morrison, associate dean and professor in the Department
of Hospitality and Tourism Management, was one of 37 invited
delegates to the 9th Biennial Conference of the International
Academy for the Study of Tourism held in Beijing in July.
The academy, which has only admitted 63 members worldwide,
is comprised of highly accomplished tourism researchers.
Among other activities, Professor Morrison and a small group
of delegates provided marketing advice to the Beijing Municipal
Bureau of Tourism in preparation for the 2008 Summer Olympics.
