The days are hot and the students are back — it
must be August in West Lafayette! As we prepare to welcome
our returning students, we look forward to meeting a new
class. And our first-year students for fall 2006 are an
exceptional group — talented, intelligent, and involved.
The SAT scores of our incoming freshmen keep climbing,
and this year’s class has the highest average yet.
The demand for our programs is high as career opportunities
for professionals in the hospitality and service industries
continue to grow. In fact, several programs in Consumer
Sciences and Retailing and Hospitality and Tourism Management
were so popular that we had to restrict enrollment for
fall 2006. With our current numbers, we expect to graduate
a record 600+ students in 2005-06.
Even though our enrollment is growing, our college remains
one of the smallest and close-knit schools at Purdue. I
continually see and hear about faculty and staff who go
out of their way to help a student. This caring attitude
is just one of the reasons why many of our students say
the thing they like most about CFS is the personal attention
they receive — and that’s the way we think
it should be.
Hail Purdue!
